Those flammable gas contains mainly methane, hydrogen sulfide etc, which separated out from drilling fluids via mud gas separator should be vented through a hose pipe to a safe area where in certain far distance away, the flare ignition device is installed in the area, when the gas vent out, the ignition device will create high voltage electric spark to ignite the flammable gas.
Controllable is the key: combustion occurs in designated, open air, at a safe distance from well site equipment and personnel, and the size and state of the flame can be directly observed.
